An Exclusive Look at What Lies Beneath the City of Bangor, Maine

As one of the larger cities in the state of Maine, it should not be a surprise that there are some secrets hiding beneath the streets of Bangor.

Apparently, there is a maze of tunnels and rooms beneath the century old buildings and streets of the Queen City.  Many of these are directly underneath the downtown buildings, but some run underneath the city's streets.

The History of Bangor, Maine

Incorporated nearly 250 years ago, the City of Bangor has a rich history.

According to the city's website, the town was incorporated by a minister named Seth Noble.  He had made the trip to the area with the intention of naming the town Sunbury.  After a change of heart, he ended up naming the town Bangor, after an Irish hymn of the same name.

At first, the town was a hub for the fishing industry.  Later, thanks to Eastern Maine's dense forests, the town became known for its connection to the logging industry.  The fact that the Penobscot River allowed easy access to the Atlantic Ocean made it a convenient place for both industries.

In the 21st century, Bangor remains a hub for Eastern Maine.  Several notable businesses call the area home, the city boasts several colleges & universities, a couple of large concert venues, and Bangor International Airport allows the people of Eastern Maine access to the world.

Recently, the Mysteries of Maine Youtube channel posted a video of an exploration of the tunnels that lie beneath Bangor.

WARNING: Under no circumstances should you enter this property. By doing so you risk bodily harm and/or prosecution for trespassing on private property.

The man exploring Bangor found corridors, rooms filled with junk, bathrooms that have not been used in decades, and a very long tunnel.
