End of an Era: Kennebunkport’s Floating Boat Bar Taken Out of Water for Dining
I know that headline must have scared you, and yes it is true, but it's not as bad as you think. Have you ever seen that huge sailboat that seems to constantly be docked in the marina in Kennebunkport? If you have, then you know it's also a hallowed-out boat with a built-in bar that floats all day long in the marina, with the most incredible vibes you could ever ask for in the summertime. It's one of the most exciting things to look forward to when you head to Kennebunkport for the day.
With the reconstruction of yet another historic bar in Kennebunkport, The Pilot House, also comes some new plans for the floating bar named Spirit of Massachusetts. Click here to read about the full plans for the Pilot House. According to the Press Herald, the owners of Pilot House and the Spirit of Massachusetts are the same and are proposing a contract zone that would allow them to demolish and replace the restaurant, as well as bring the vessel out of the water and onto the property for dining.
So we're not losing the infamous boat bar, but instead, we're just going to have to enjoy its views of the bay from land. This news is at least a little relieving, but at the same time, I still feel like I'm mourning a loss. I mean, come on! The floating Spirit is always a huge part of summer down there, simply because it's floating! But hey, it could have been taken away forever, so I guess we gotta count our blessings, right?
