This could be the opportunity of a lifetime.

Portland owns that tiny boarded-up waterfront gazebo. It's an eight-sided tiny little store with the three things every business wants: location, location, location.

According to Mainebiz, it could be used for selling food, souvenirs, or whatever you could cram in there. It has been an ice cream stand in the past. But it's been empty for years. But Portland is trying to bring some life back to it with a business. Food would be perfect, or a local artist or even a business (the right business, because there are some drawbacks).

It DOES have electricity. It does NOT have water.

This odd little city-owned building is only 77 square feet. I'm sure you've been in bigger bathrooms (which by the way, it also does not have). So if you did want to bring in food, you'd have to make it somewhere else and sell it here. But again, it's an ideal location.

Location, location, location.

This itty bitty gazebo is on Commercial Street near the Maine State Pier with plenty of foot traffic in the area and a tourist mecca! According to Mainebiz, the official promotion materials for the gazebo say,

...on a popular stretch of city-owned property where cruise ship passengers, locals and visitors alike pass by on their way to area restaurants, shops and recreational trails.

 

How much is this little place a month?

It's gonna run ya $1,000 a month. So whatever you sell, sell a lot of them. If you are interested and have the perfect business, Portland would like to hear from you by March 1. Then they will see all the proposals and decide on what the contract would look like. At $1000 a month, that's the cheapest rent in Portland these days, even if it is smaller than your bathroom.
