Maine is very well known for the crops it produces, with potatoes being right at the top of the list. But did you know that Maine produces 99% of all the blueberries in the country, making it the single largest producer of blueberries in the United States?

There's a company in Maine that has been harvesting those blueberries for 150 years. Wyman's is based out of Milbridge, Maine, and was founded by Jasper Wyman in 1874. Today, it is run by Jasper Wyman's great-grandchildren.

Wyman's got its start as a seafood canning company, but switched to harvesting blueberries a few years later. Though they are known for their blueberries, they harvest and sell several other fruits as well.

You can find their fruit products wherever you do your grocery shopping. And that's not just here in Maine, but all over the country and at online retailers like Amazon.

When you think of Maine businesses that have been around for over a century, L.L. Bean, Amato's, Oakhurst Dairy, and Deering Lumber come to mind. Of those I've named, only Deering Lumber has been around longer than Wyman's by just eight years.

The thing that impresses me the most about Wyman's is that it is still a family business after 150 years. As of late, so many companies being gobbled up by bigger companies and moved out of Maine, as was the fate of B&M Baked Beans.

Congratulations to Wyman's Blueberries on their 150-year anniversary here in Maine. Here's to another 150!
