Maine School Has A Brilliant Way To Make Sure All Students Excel
Even though many people are hesitant to talk about it, we can all agree that our children learn at different rates and in different ways. Some kids excel at everything, some are better at math than they are at writing, and some need help in most subjects.
One Central Maine middle and high school has found a way to make sure that every student not only succeeds, but excels.
I recently attended my daughter's 7th grade orientation at Cony Middle School in Augusta. One of the first things they did was go over the bell schedule. Basically, they went over what time the students needed to be there, what time each period started, when they were dismissed for the day, etc.
One of the items on the list was Ram Time.
It was quickly explained to us that this was a 30 minute block of time that students could use to spend extra time on subjects that they may be having a little trouble with. Additionally, it is an opportunity for students who are not having issues with their current subjects to have some time for enrichment.
It is also, apparently, the period used for certain arts activities, like band.
Yes, it sounds like a study hall, but Ram Time seems a lot more focused on doing actual work. Instead of reading, talking with your friends, and playing on your phone like it was at my high school.
Honestly, wouldn't it be great if all schools adopted something like this?
