Why does Maine need The Ultimate Metallica Show?

First, let's just make sure we're all on the same page. You've maybe heard by now, but I'm beyond excited to say that on Sunday Jan. 9, WCYY is premiering The Ultimate Metallica Show. The show will be two hours of nothing but Metallica starting at 10PM. I'll do my best to share some stories, trivia, and anything else that comes to mind about one of the biggest bands in the world, but there's no question that the focus will be on the music. Yeah, you'll hear their hits, but we'll also dive deep into their catalog, share some amazing live tracks, and even celebrate cover songs of 'Tallica tracks from other bands.

With a band like Metallica—they've sold 125 million records and have performed on every single continent—the possibilities are endless.

But you might still be wondering, why do we need this show?

Well, I haven't been shy about wondering why it's been more than three decades since Metallica have performed in Maine, and for that very reason—let's call it the Maine Metallica drought—we need to make sure we keep this band front and center, right? But more than that, this is a band that recently celebrated its 40th anniversary of making music, and by all accounts, they're not slowing down anytime soon. With four decades of music and the possibility of new music always on the horizon, we want to crank them up every single chance we get.

More than anything, though, we're just huge fans of Mighty Metallica, so why not dedicate a couple of hours to them? Is there a better way to end the weekend than following up Curdo's Spinout with two hours of rock and roll from the masters of rock and roll?

I've shared this before on this website as well as on the air, but I've been a fan of Metallica for my entire life. I've seen them 13 times in concert all over the country, photographed their live shows, interviewed some of the band members, bought way too many T-shirts, taught my infants how to throw up the horns to "Battery" as soon as they could walk, written about them extensively for Loudwire, Ultimate Classic Rock, and other outlets, and oh yeah, I also helped launch Ultimate Metallica a decade ago—a website that, with the launch of The Ultimate Metallica Show, will see fresh life breathed into it soon.

At the end of the day, though, I'm a fan. Plain and simple. And I can't wait to spin some Metallica records with you every Sunday night.

What Songs Do You Want to Hear?

Two hours every Sunday night means we're going to be playing a lot of Metallica songs. Thankfully, we'll be culling from their studio records as well as all of their live performances that have been recorded over the decades. Demos? Sure, why not. Cover songs? Absolutely. The sky is the limit, and we want to hear what you want to hear.

The best way to do this is to simply download the CYY app and then send us a message. Let us know you're making a request for The Ultimate Metallica Show, and we'll make sure to get it on the air!
