Here’s Where to Find The Most ‘Boring’ Tourist Trap in Maine
Every single state in the country has them whether they want to admit it or not. Those would be tourist traps. A place where lots of people flock to, perhaps getting overcharged during their visit and somehow feel like they didn't quite get the full experience they expected as they leave.
Travel site Far & Wide decided to put together a comprehensive list of the most 'boring' tourist traps you can find in every state across the country. Some of their choices hold plenty of merit but their choice for Maine feels like it is missing some context.
Far & Wide Declares the Desert of Maine as the Most 'Boring' Tourist Trap in the State
Far & Wide didn't have many nice things to say about the Desert of Maine. Far & Wide sarcastically pontificates that it's not a desert but instead 40 acres of glacial silt caused by poor farming practices. They also use a whiny tone in complaining that the Desert of Maine's signature camel is made of fiberglass.
But perhaps the most confusing complaint was that it rains often in Freeport. As though Freeport is the only place in Maine where it rains during the summer months.
The Desert of Maine Has Made Many Improvements in Recent Years
Perhaps there was a time when the Desert of Maine was a true tourist trap. These days, the destination feels different.
The Desert of Maine recently opened an excellent miniature golf course for all ages. The Desert of Maine has been working diligently on their campground, which includes new glamping options as well as a renovated bathhouse.
There's also a snack bar with delicious ice cream and an old school train ride where you can sit back, relax and enjoy your surroundings.
