New Mexican Restaurant on Route One in Falmouth Makes Street Corn Easy to Eat

Fuego is now open, and did something so simple and yet so brilliant to the Mexican staple of street corn: they took it off the cob!

It's been a year since Bueno Loco on Route One in Falmouth suddenly closed. There was no reason given on their Facebook post, except to say:

A new restaurant tenant will be coming into this space, which we think will make a great addition to the Falmouth community. Thank you for your support & patronage, it was a magical ride.

The rumors started to fly! What restaurant would be coming to fill this void? Then a sign went up! Fuego!

This was in early March, about five months after Bueno Loco closed. Opening soon! How exciting. I drive by this place about 40 times a day, and often roll in to see if anything exciting is happening. It wasn't. In fact, the same sign on the door saying Bueno Loco was closing was still there. Then there would be signs of life. One day I stopped in and knocked on the door, because I could see someone working. He came to the door and didn't speak a lick of English, and my Spanish from high school was not coming to me. I did get that he was painting. The wait continued.

Then I saw that the sign was actually lit, and the parking lot was packed!

I walked into a packed restaurant in its first week of business. Falmouth missed a good Mexican restaurant. They were busy, and I asked permission to take pictures. They are only on Instagram, so history or information about the place is scarce. But just from stopping by on my way to run errands, I couldn't wait to eat there!

Oh, and grab a margarita!

I don't know the gentleman's name, but the painting job looked great. The kitchen was buzzing, and they were making all the tortillas by hand.

A quick glance at the menu shows that they have traditional favorites of burritos and tacos and fajitas, but it definitely looks elevated. Their esquite (Mexican street corn) will be one of the first things I try. I love that they took it off the cob, because usually I get elbow-deep in street corn, and it's not pretty.
