New ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Teaser: ‘There Has Been an Awakening…’
As both Comic-Con and D23 went by without a new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer we were left to wonder when exactly we’d see the next footage from the upcoming. Well, get ready. That time is now. “Have you felt it?”
The following Instagram was posted to the official Star Wars account this afternoon.
It’s clearly teasing a full Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer but there are no details yet on when that new trailer will be revealed. What we do know is that the footage was released exclusively on Instagram to announce the photo sharing app can now support widescreen videos. Said the company in a release:
Instagram is especially excited about what these new format options will mean for video and this @starwars reveal is an awesome example.
OK, that’s all well and good but we want more of this, like right now. Sadly, we don’t know when now is. For now now you’ll just have to enjoy the money shot: John Boyega’s Finn facing off (with a lightsaber!) against Kylo Ren and his crossblade lightsaber.
Beyond those two shots, there’s not a ton of new footage. The shot of Kylo Ren is from the first Force Awakens teaser trailer and there’s an early shot of General Hux and Captain Phasma addressing the First Order troops that’s very reminiscent of footage from the second trailer. But really all you need to know is that at some point in this movie, Kylo Ren is going to try to escape and Finn is going to try to stop him, which will lead to a pretty serious lightsaber duel.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters on December 18.
