Portland, Maine, Among Top Cities in America People Are Moving To in 2025

For a lot of people, there comes a time in their life when they just need a change. That change could mean a different career. It could mean adding a few new hobbies. It could also mean moving to a new city and starting a new adventure.

Moving experts PODS have compiled a study of the top 20 cities in America where people are moving to for 2025. They used data from January 2024 through March of 2025 to put together their list of the hottest and highest in-demand cities.

Portland, Maine, Ranks in Top 15 Cities People Want To Move To in 2025

For a couple straight years, Portland, Maine, has ranked in the top 20 on PODS list of most desired cities to move to. In 2024, Portland ranked 12 on PODS list. For 2025, it has dropped a spot in popularity, down to 13.

But that still means it's in high demand. PODS detailed Portland, Maine's popularity with this  explanation:

Portland, Maine, Was One of the Only Cold Weather Cities on the Top 20 List

Another interesting note about Portland remaining in high demand for those moving in 2025 is that it is one of the few cold weather cities on the list. The majority of the top 20 is made up of cities in places that rarely drop below freezing, if ever.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, topped the list of cities people are moving to in 2025. Cities in Tennessee, Florida, North Carolina and Texas rounded out the remaining top 10. Only Boise, Idaho, and Spokane, Washington join Portland as cities that see winters that include snow and colder temperatures.
