Remember last week when it was in the mid 50's and felt like spring was right around the corner - or at least close?

Although we are putting on extra layers with a dip in temperatures this week, the one sign that spring is here for me is always the opening of some of the New Hampshire State Parks.

Of the New Hampshire State Parks, Bear Brook, Miller, Monadnock Old Toll Road and Gilson Pond, Odiorne Point, and Pawtuckaway State Park are all officially open; however, they are operating under a weekend-only policy.

Until further notice, the parks listed above will be open Saturdays and Sundays. You can expect the parks to open full time around the first or second weekend in May.

Check in the New Hampshire State Park website for official updates and full time openings.

I feel like years ago I would not need to say this, but hiking our beautiful forests and state parks has become increasingly popular. I suppose that is a good thing.

That said, with the increase in foot and driving traffic, it is always good to remember some of these common practices as listed by the New Hampshire State Park Facebook Page:

  • "Day use Reservations are only available 30 days ahead of the planned arrival date. Walk-in spaces will still be available on a first-come-first-served basis and cannot be guaranteed."
  • "The reservation page can be found by visiting NHStateParks.org and clicking “Planning” and then “Day Use Reservations” in the top right."

You can see a few more reminders on the Facebook post as well.

See you on the trails, friends.
