There has long been a fierce battle between coffee companies to win the love and loyalty of coffee drinkers. Here in the northeast, many have pledged their devotion to Dunkin' and more recently, Aroma Joe's. Nationally, the crown has been worn by Starbucks for many years.

But a recent downturn in sales and revenue and some growth by other newer coffee chains has forced Starbucks to consider changes moving forward. According to Timeout, those changes are set to roll out nationwide, including at Starbucks locations throughout Maine.

Starbucks is Pushing to Make Their Maine Coffee Shops Feel More Local

While Dunkin' is known for their grab and go culture, Starbucks still remains a place people visit and stick around. With that in mind, Starbucks wants to make their coffee shops feel like the neighborhood gathering spot.

If you place an order "for here", Starbucks will start pouring your coffee into an actual coffee mug versus a to-go cup. Additionally, Starbucks will begin to offer those "for here" customers free refills on most of their coffee and tea beverages. Hang out for the wi-fi and the intense caffeine buzz.

Starbucks is Installing Condiment Bars to Enhance the Coffee Shop Feel

As Timeout explains, Starbucks also wants to offer customers another perk that will make their locations feel like a neighborhood coffee shop. That would be a condiment bar, where customers can choose their milk, creamer, dairy alternative and any sweetener they'd like to gussy up their beverage.

These changes will go into effect quickly. Customers will notice those alongside Starbucks new marketing efforts as a coffeehouse versus a coffee chain.
