For many years now, Taco Trio has been a staple in South Portland when it comes to delicious Mexican food. Their original Knightville location got so popular that Taco Trio thought expansion to other cities was the only answer. After a brief attempt in Portland on outer Forest Avenue dissipated, Taco Trio appeared to be headed south to the Saco/Biddeford area in early 2021. Unfortunately, that is never going to happen.

According to Saco Bay News, more than two years after Taco Trio promised a grand opening in Saco, the building is for sale and the business no longer plans to open a location in Saco. It's a small surprise to residents of the area who have driven past the building at 27 Elm Street adorned with Taco Trio signage for awhile now.

Taco Trio initial said the delay for their Saco location was staffing issues. The likely culprit of the location never opening is Taco Trio's major South Portland expansion that happened in October of 2021. The restaurant moved from a cozy spot to a massive two-story location nearby in South Portland. It gave Taco Trio a chance to have a 90-seat restaurant in a prime area of South Portland, with plenty of room for further expansion if necessary.

That leaves the Saco/Biddeford area with another restaurant vacancy, but one that could be a quick turnover for an ambitious restauranteur. The building at 27 Elm Street once housed Skipper's Restaurant before Taco Trio was expected to take over. It also includes an apartment with the sale price.
