There’s A 40-Year-Old Twinkie At A Maine School That’s Fully Intact In Case You’re Hungry
We've all scoured our cupboards for snacks and realized that maybe there's something in there that has been sitting around for a little too long. How far past the sell-by date are you willing to eat that Devil Dog? Or maybe that sleeve of Oreos? Well, if you've ever second guessed yourself when it comes to eating "old" food, then check out this 40-year old Twinkie that exists at George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill, Maine.
According to the Bangor Daily News, in 1976 a science teacher at George Stevens Academy name Roger Bennati decided to conduct an impromptu experiment to see how quickly an unwrapped Twinkie would decompose. He took it out of its package, placed it on top of his chalkboard and then.....retired 28 years later from teaching before the experiment concluded.
In fact, that same Twinkie is not immortalized in a glass case in the office of George Stevens Academy's dean of students, Libby Rosemeier. As you can see from the photo above, 40 years of exposure has taken a toll on the appearance of the famous confection. Oh, and this singular Twinkie is REALLY famous.
Throughout the years, the BBC, MTV, USA Today and New York Times have all contacted George Stevens Academy about their legendary Twinkie. In some respects, the Twinkie is more famous than the longstanding positive reputation of the Academy that houses it. Perhaps that speaks to the world we live in.
But the last, and maybe the most pressing question is, could you eat the Twinkie? Nobody at George Stevens Academy would dare do such a thing, but ladies and gentleman, that is why YouTube was invented.
We cannot confirm this man's claim that the Twinkie he eats is 40 years old. The box he shows in the video is undoubtedly old, but the internet is well known for falsities. What do you think, is it real?
