For about 36 straight hours throughout Maine, it just kept snowing.

Winter storm Fern dropped piles and piles of pristine and fluffy snow all across the state, with some totals nearing two feet in some areas.

But as cleanup in many cities and towns will be ongoing this week, there's a pair of things to keep your eyes.

The first will be the temperatures this week. Highs will struggle to stay in the teens and lows could dip below zero. That could cause the light, fluffy snow to turn into something far less pleasant.

The second item to keep an eye on is another potential storm building strength and determining its path.

Forecast Models Are Showing a Potential Nor'easter For Maine This Weekend

While it's still too early to lock it in, some of the same forecast models that promised big snow totals for winter storm Fern are hinting at a nor'easter for New England this coming weekend.

If the storm holds its track and slams the region, it's likely to bring all the hallmarks of a typical nor'easter in January.

Strong winds, heavy bands of snow and blizzard-like conditions. Power outages would be a significant concern given the string of cold temperatures.

If the storm does target the northeast, it would most likely be a Sunday into Monday arrival.

There's Still a Chance That This Storm Misses Maine All Together

As shared by WGME Meteorologist Charlie Lopresti, there's still a chance that this potential nor'easter moves into the ocean as it makes it way up the east coast.

The track for the storm won't come into clear focus until midweek. By Thursday or Friday, the severity of the storm would also be more realistic to forecast if it impacts New England and Maine.
