The list of restaurants closing in the Portland area seems to be growing by the day.

On Wednesday of this week Little Bigs Bakery in South Portland announced in a Facebook post that after 6 years in business it was "Finally time to say goodbye."

This morning I find out that Ice It! A DIY Bakery has closed both of its retail locations in Portland and Yarmouth. They, like Little Bigs Bakery, gave no reason for the closings, although Ice It! will continue selling wholesale baked goods and booking birthday parties.

These sudden closings come on the heels of several other restaurants and businesses that have closed their doors, of have been put up for sale, mostly without really giving a reason. That alone begs the question, what is going on that is forcing these great establishments to have to close? Is the rent too high? That was the case for at least one Portland restaurant.

Not all restaurants in the area are struggling though, there are several that are on the verge of opening or expanding their eateries, so it's not all bad news.
