The park will stay closed until at least July 1st, and possibly longer.

According to the Bangor Daily News, cars can't enter and you can't go above tree line. The Baxter State park Authority announced in a letter the decision because of the coronavirus. The park will be open for walk-in day use below the tree line. That is the areas below where trees can't grow. But the trails to Katahdin and Traveler mountains will be closed at the trailheads.

Camping and day use parking reservations have been cancelled and the park will be calling to either transfer or refund reservations. This is a huge change, as Baxter State Park has around 70,000 visitors every year with most heading to Katahdin, the tallest mountain in Maine. Camping in Baxter is so popular people work months in advance to reserve campsites and cabins.

They did not want to close, especially since being outdoors is so important right now and they will work to open it as soon as it's safe to do so.
