For nearly a decade now, some of the most prolific travel sites and foodie blogs have been telling people to drop everything and book a trip to Maine as soon as they can. That's because Maine's relevance and profile has risen globally as a great place to visit for scenery, experiences, and food.

This makes Maine's strange relationship with Yelp all the more confusing. Yelp has been releasing a list of the 'Top 100 Restaurants in America' each year, without a single restaurant in Vacationland even being mentioned.

That has changed, as a seasonal seafood hotspot has found its way onto Yelp's 'Top 100 Restaurants in America for 2024' list.

Coming in at number 42 on the list is Shannon's Unshelled in Boothbay. Similar to another well-known seafood shack nearby, visitors often line up in the summertime to get their hands on the delicious food being rolled out.

According to Yelpers, there are a few truly standout options on Shannon's menu. There's the fried clams prepared with gluten-free batter (a twist from what you'd find at many other joints). There's also a variety of soups, including a lobster bisque and unique shrimp corn chowder.

And of course, there's the lobster roll. Shannon Unshelled's lobster roll has opened eyes over the last decade. It's not just the lobster roll, but the lobster roll trio – featuring three variations of a lobster roll – that should suit anyone's tastes.

Shannon's Unshelled is officially open for the 2024 season.
