A confirmed tornado touched down on Cape Cod Tuesday, and tore the roof off one West Yarmouth vacation destination.

It was a wild morning of weather off the New England coast. According to NECN, the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down South Yarmouth, Massachusetts shortly after noon time Tuesday. A 90 mph gust of wind was also reported in Hyannis around 12:15 p.m.

This was not completely out of the blue. The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for parts of Barnstable County until 12:45 p.m. That has now been lifted as the fast moving storm moved out out to sea. That storm system produced a waterspout southwest of Falmouth and Martha's Vineyard earlier in the morning, according to NECN.

Damage continues to be assessed, but so far the biggest appears to have taken place at Cape Sands Inn in West Yarmouth. Video showed the roof of the motel had been almost completely ripped off the building. According to the report, there were no injuries.
