You’re Almost Guaranteed to Get a Ticket in This Part of Westbrook, Maine

Cumberland Mills Triangle

If you're either a resident of Westbrook, Maine, or frequent the area a lot, then you're probably already wicked familiar with the area known as the Cumberland Mills Triangle.

If you're unfamiliar, the triangle is the area where Cumberland Street, Harnois Avenue, Main Street, and Warren Avenue all flow into one another and wrap around a bunch of businesses, including Walgreens, Death or Glory Tattoos, and Maine Beauty Parlor.

The triangle is also known as one of the more dangerous intersections not only in Cumberland County specifically, but the state of Maine overall.

Up until August 2022, it was basically an every Mainer for themselves situation where drivers would essentially treat it like a rotary, and in turn, more or less hope for the best to remain safe and accident-free.

To try and bring some safety to the area, in August 2022, traffic lights were installed to try and not only slow drivers down, but help the traffic flow in the area more. Unfortunately, while it's helped, that area is still a problem area.

And now, something is being done about it, and if you're not following the rules, you'll be paying up.

Westbrook Maine Police

Starting back in February 2024, the Westbrook, Maine, Police Department used grant funds to start deploying traffic details dedicated to the Cumberland Mills Triangle area, and according to a Facebook post by Westbrook PD,

Officers in just a few details made a high number of stops, and over 50 tickets were issued for a variety of violations, with the highest number being for red light violations.

And while the response to getting ticketed for a traffic violation in the area may be met with annoyance and, of course, the stereotypical assumption that police are trying to write more tickets to meet a quota, Westbrook PD laid it out transparently that they're sticking around because they just want drivers to be safer to avoid injuries and tragedies.
