As we continue to anticipate Jack White's arrival to Portland in August for his first-ever live show in Maine as a solo artist, we're doing everything we can to get you prepped and excited. Fortunately, with two new studio albums slated for release over the next several months, that should be pretty easy.

Last week, White shared a rocking live performance of "Taking Me Back"—which also unveiled the quartet we will likely see at Cross Insurance Arena on Aug. 23—and at the stroke of midnight on Friday morning (Jan. 14), he shared the brand-new track, "Love Is Selfish." Not long after that, he debuted the song's official music video.

"Taking Me Back" will be found on Fear of the Dawn, which comes out April 8, and "Love Is Selfish" will be part of Entering Heaven Alive, set for release on July 22.

Where "Taking Me Back" highlighted White's signature raucous guitar work, "Love Is Selfish" takes things down a notch and features his voice and an acoustic guitar and not much else. Clocking in at under three minutes, it's a gorgeous song with a style reminiscent of The White Stripes' "We're Going to Be Friends" and lyrics that seem to share a similar sentiment as those found on White's "Love Interruption."

"I've been trying over the years to try and overcome these fears," White sings in the second verse of "Love Is Selfish," "but nothing I come up with proves I can, and I work real hard to make you understand. Yeah, I try my best to help you understand."

While "Love Is Selfish" might be considered the second song released from White since Fear of the Dawn and Entering Heaven Alive were announced, most fans are unaware that he also shared an acoustic, toned-down version of "Taking Me Back" called, appropriately, "Taking Me Back (Gently)." We say "most fans" because the official music video for the rock version of the song has more than 2 million views on White's YouTube channel and the "Gently" version has less than 175,000. So, in case you missed it, here it is:

Maybe this means we'll get an electric rendition of "Love Is Selfish" soon? We have no idea, but we do know White always has surprises up his sleeves, and we fully expect to see some those surprises when White takes over Portland later this year.
