A Pair of Local Stores Permanently Close at the Maine Mall in South Portland
With the holiday shopping season now a distant memory, retailers face the long, arduous task of trying to bring prospective shoppers into their establishments when there isn't a 'reason' to visit.
That's especially true at a place like the Maine Mall, where spring and summer can feel a little light on foot traffic. But if you plan a visit to the Maine Mall any time soon, you'll notice a couple of new vacancies left behind by a pair of local businesses.
207 Kicks is Gone From the Maine Mall
Scattered among big name national retailers in the Maine Mall had been a pair of local businesses trying to make it. One of those local businesses was a custom sneaker shop called 207 Kicks that offered a unique and wide selection of sneakers you couldn't find anywhere else.
In a social media post at the end of December, 207 Kicks announced that they were closing their Maine Mall location permanently after 4 years in business.
Peapod Jewelry Has Permanently Closed Their Maine Mall Location
With the original location still operating in Edgecomb, the decades-old family business Peapod Jewelry decided to take a chance and expand their operations to include a store inside the Maine Mall.
Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to have worked out. The small, handcrafted jewelry store is now listed as 'permanently closed' on Google and is no longer listed on the Maine Mall website.
Something New is Coming Soon to the Maine Mall
Earlier this year, news broke that Dick's Sporting Goods has purchased the long-vacant Sears building as an endcap to the Maine Mall. There is stirring in the retail community that Dick's intends to transform that space into a Dick's House of Sport.
