Thrillest.com has searched and researched far and wide to find the most underrated places in each U.S. State and Maine's pick probably won't surprise us locals.

Other states' most underrated places included California's Amador County winerys, America's oldest city, St. Augustine, Florida and New Hampshire's Jericho Mountain State Park.

Maine's pick is the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.  Reasons for this pick included it's uninhabited vastness and varying natural landscapes.  The article singles out the Churchill Dam as a necessity for the experience:

Must-do: For a little more adventure, hit the whitewater at Chase Rapids downstream from Churchill Dam

One group of guides that we reported on a few weeks back were planning a 10 day excursion through this gem of Maine.  Check out the video of them (NSFW due to language) getting started on their journey with future episodes to be released documenting their full adventure.

According to VisitMaine.com, the Allagash, as we locals call it, is a rare find in that its waterway actually flows north.

See for yourself why this was Maine's pick by watching this video from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry's YouTube page.
