There's a lot of things that people look forward to during any summer in Maine. For some, it's seasonal restaurants reopening. For others, it's comfortable hikes or a trip to one of the state's spectacular beaches. There's also another group of people that really enjoys shopping, specifically trying to score a sweet deal on a hidden gem.

Over the last few years, one of the best places to do that in Maine hasn't been operational. That would be the Montsweag Flea Market, a roadside attraction that has drawn tens of thousands of people each summer since it opened back in 1977.

According to B 98.5, the Montsweag Flea Market closed in 2020 due to the pandemic but reopened the following year. It tried again in 2022 but for the past two summers, the large, sprawling area it called home has simply been collecting weeds.

But according to a new Facebook page created in late-October, the Montsweag Flea Market is returning in 2025 under new ownership. As of this writing, details are scarce other than the projected opening date is May 1.

No details have been given on whether some of the classic vendors will be returning under the new ownership. There's also no details on whether parking will remain free and what days the flea market will be operational. That likely will be worked out as the grand reopening date approaches.

For those that love antiques, projects of just spending a day sifting through a million different potential finds, Maine's largest flea market returning in 2025 is a piece of great news.
