
Tony’s Donuts in Portland, Maine, Plans Grand Re-Opening
There is a handful of places throughout Portland, Maine, that locals have been trying to keep a secret as more and more tourists flock to the city.
One of those places has been Tony's Donuts, an unassuming bakery that sits just off one of the busiest streets in the entire city.
When you walk into the shop, the sweet smell of delicious donuts engulfs you. But don't get it twisted, Tony's Donuts isn't flashy. It's not meant to be,
The inside of the shop isn't adorned with bright colors and their selection of donuts and pastries doesn't include wild flavors or something you've never seen before.
But that's kind of the point. A good old fashioned joint that people return to over and over again. Unless it doesn't exist anymore.
Tony's Donuts in Portland, Maine, Went Up For Sale in April
For more than six decades, Tony's Donuts has been a family affair. A donut shop that was started by Antonio Fournier in 1965 and then passed onto to his children.
According to the Portland Press Herald, the Fournier family put Tony's Donuts and the building it calls home up for sale in April. The news shook longtime fans of Tony's Donuts, worrying that the shop could close permanently or that a new owner may change what has become a Portland standard.

During the time Tony's Donuts was for sale, the business operated as usual. But a new Facebook page for the business popped up recently suggesting that Tony's Donuts may be under new ownership.
Not only that, Tony's Donuts will close from Christmas Day through January 2. The shop will have a grand re-opening on Saturday, January 3 with raffles, giveaways and a terrific donut deal from 6am until 2pm.
It sounds like Tony's Donuts plans to be around for a lot longer.
