To me, that’s exactly how a Sunday in Maine should be spent in the summer.

This past March, MAMM student bands performed at Aura to safely take the stage. Each band had at least one girl in the group. The Southern Maine Community College's media program was there to film it all. Now we are bringing you these amazing performances. You'll hear some great covers as well as fantastic original music. Each March as part of Women's History Month, the Maine Academy of Modern Music (MAMM) hosts its annual Girls Rock! event—a celebration of girls' involvement in music. Think of MAMM as Maine's School of Rock. It's Maine's biggest and best music school. This past March, MAMM student bands performed at Aura to safely take the stage. Out first Mainers Who Inspires Maine is Jeff Shaw founder and Executive Director of the non-profit Maine Academy of Music. Jeff and his team have been inspiring the musical talents of Maine kids for over 17 years. Think of MAMM as Maine's statewide School of Rock.

Well, this is "pretty" cool! Maine music students are going to be part of the new song by one of our favorite CYY bands, The Pretty Reckless. Thanks to The Halo and one of the coolest, talented and nicest music guys in Maine, Jonathan Wyman, Maine Academy of Modern Music students were invited to sing on "And So It Went", the latest single by The Pretty Reckless. It gets even cooler because also featured on the track with the MAMM students is Tom Morello, the guitarist from Rage Against The Machine. This is incredible!

Thanks to the pandemic, MAMM hasn't been able to have their regular fundraisers and concerts, so they're going virtual!

Saturday is the big day for the 2018 MAMM SLAM. Maine's annual High School Band Rock-Off is happening at Empire in Portland. Doors open at 1 pm and tickets cost $12 for adults, $7 for students, and children under 5 are free. If you know someone in a band, they will have $2 off coupons for the show...
