With the rich Irish ancestry we have here in Maine, it’s no surprise that we have plenty of great Irish pubs. But one of them is now getting national attention!
Every March 17 we are greeted with the traditions of wearing green, parades, corned beef and cabbage, and someone inevitably using the wrong abbreviation for St. Patrick's Day.
Maine's own take on Fat Tuesday celebrations, hilarious comedian Nikki Glaser is coming to the Merrill Auditorium, and St. Patrick's day is going to be insane. Here's more details on all of that.
Seeing the Dropkick Murphy's perform any time of the year is a party but there's some a little extra special about seeing them on the week of St. Patrick's Day.
St Patrick's Day in Portland is always one of the best days of the year. Except for last year. Oh, and this year. Usually, the bars are full, people are singing and dancing in the streets, the St Paddy's Day parade goes down Commercial Street, and the city is buzzing...in more ways than one! So it was a joy to find one guy who wouldn't let a global pandemic stop his years-long tradition of playing his bagpipes for the people of Portland. Meet George, from Pine Point. George has played his bagpipes on St Patrick's Day at the iconic Miss Portland Diner for many years. With COVID, George took his gig outside and played a free concert for traffic passing by on Marginal Way. He looked great in the kilt and sounded fantastic! Thank you, George and the Miss Portland Diner for keeping the spirit of St Paddy's Day alive. I say we put George at the head of the St. Patrick's Day Parade next year!
