Walking Repairman Sign on 302 Is Now an Official Maine Landmark

For 60 years the walking repairman sign outside of Al Hawkes television repair business has stood and greeted millions of passerby's on Route 302 in Westbrook.

The 13-foot tall walking repairman was built by Al for his television repair shop back in 1962, according to WMTW, and for years his arm holding the toolbox wold move back and forth giving the effect that he was walking.

Late in May, the National Park Service granted the request to place the sign on the National Register of Historic Places after the Westbrook Historical Society and members of the community worked to get the sign on the registry, the news station reported.

The television repair shop has been closed and the building renovated, but the Walking Man, as it's been dubbed, is now here to stay.
