What Makes Maine Rock? The Beer [PHOTOS]
Cheers CYY!
As you know, Maine rocks for a lot of reasons (and not just because all those magazines and lists say that it has the "best blueberries" or "most lighthouses"). My favorite reason that makes Maine rock: Maine has 55+ breweries producing hundreds of gallons of craft beer - and the lineup of available beers are changing constantly.
I'm here to be your craft beer sherpa with my Beer Babe blog. To start, here's a few things on the beer radar that you should take note of.
Great beer to get right now (while it lasts!):
If you are a hops lover and not drinking Rising Tide Brewing Company - Calcutta Cutter right now, I don't know what to tell you. Get it. This season's version is absolute perfection - it's around on tap and also for sale in 4-packs.
Not extremely hoppy, but deliciously balanced, I also recommend that you go and grab some Sebago Brewing Company Bonfire Rye. Perfect for sitting outside on the porch while it gets a little bit chilly outside. It's pouring at the brewpubs or you can take it home in a 6-pack.
New beer on the way:
Friday (September 26th), at "1pm sharp" Bissell Brothers Brewing are releasing a new, slightly unpronounceable brew called Bucolia. The beer, which will be an "Amber IPA" (as described by the brothers), will be available in cans in limited quantities at the brewery. Expect this to be hoppy but maybe a little fuller-bodied than their hit flagship The Substance.
If you are not a hops fan, you might also be interested in the new collaborative beer that will be released Thursday (September 25th) at the so-geeky-its-cool Arcadia National Bar. The beer, brewed in collaboration with Foundation Brewing Company is called Extra Special When Lit Bitter and is an ESB (English Special Bitter) style. Malty and easy to drink, this one won't last long, so warm up your pinball fingers and head over.
The best spot to having a brew right now:
This is the season where we are either trying to hang on to summer or celebrating the arrival of fall. Either way, if you've got a jacket or sweater, outside is the best place to drink. My favorite spot at the moment? Slab. Hands down. Plenty of space, fun bands, and delicious carbs to eat on top of the carbs in my glass. Sign me up.
