Happy Cinco De Mayo 2021! It's certainly a more festive fiesta than last year's Cinco De Mayo when our world was pretty much shut down by COVID. This year we need to celebrate the Mexican Army victory over the French and Napoleon III in the Battle of Puebla from May 5, 1862. That's what Cinco De Mayo is really all about. One yummy way to do that is to eat Mexican tonite. No cooking! Instead, you can support Portland's fantastic Mexican restaurants by dining in, doing take out or doing delivery today. Here's a list of some of Portland's best Mexican restaurants. Plus, we answer the age-old question...."how many Taco Bells are there in Maine?"
Before Portland had a ZILLION top-notch restaurants and became a world-wide foodie destination, we had to settle for just a few great places. Places like The Village Cafe, Valle's Steak House, F. Parker Reidy's, Alberta’s, Ruby’s Choice, Hu Shang, Walters, Aubergine, Norm’s Una, and Horsefeathers. There was also a classic place on Middle Street called Carburs. This was one of my favorite places in the '80s with a menu 10 miles long!
Now might not be the most perfect time to be thinking of opening a new restaurant in Portland. BUT, with some places sadly having to vacate, it might be an opportunity to find a prime spot. Like this one that just opened up in Portland's West End. It's the former home of the famous Aurora Provisions and it can all be yours for $1,495,000. It looks like a pretty sweet spot.
